Spring Awakening

The "Rent" of our generation: "Spring Awakening" is a story of self-discovery and the importance of real relationships. It takes place in 19th Century Germany, following boarding school students at the most innocent times of their lives and their struggle to be understood by their elders. This show covers every subject and taboo that is still apparent today, forcing you to look at the way you choose to judge people before truly understanding them.
I got to see this musical last night and enjoyed it very much. It has been a while since I've been to a show and I didn't know anything about it before seeing it. The story was amazing but what really kept me interested was the music. I enjoyed the "rockier edge"- it reminded me of music from The Who's "Tommy". Duncan Sheik (who you probably remember doing "Barely Breathing"- a popular 90's pop tune) composed the music and hopefully he decides to do more in the musical genre.
This is definitely a risque musical. I did see a few heads turning and heard a few comments during the show from some older attendees. Some of the scenes shocked me, even. I respect the musical for it's honesty and it's portrayal of real life. It has a great story and awesome music. Go see it!
